Letter To The Members - Jan 2017

Dear Kartsport Nelson Members

I hope that everyone had a great Christmas and New Year’s. 2017 is going to be a fantastic year for us so I thought it’d be good idea to write to all our members about what is going on to keep everyone in the loop.

Firstly I’d like to welcome all of the new member’s that have joined Kartsport Nelson in the past few months, our membership is really starting to grow and all of the hard work we have put into promoting kartsport is starting to pay off.

One of the main goals I was hoping to achieve after I was elected president was to build on junior membership and the promotional side of this to make people aware that Kartsport Nelson exists. In the next few weeks we are working with the Nelson Speedway to work out a way of promoting our sport to the public, so keep your eyes and ears open for that. We will continue to use the Nelson Mail, Radio, Posters, Website and Facebook to push kartsport into the public eye. If anyone has any other ideas that may help promote the sport please feel free to share your ideas with the committee.

As you are all aware this year we are hosting the Mike Pero South Island Sprint Championships here in Nelson. This is great news for our members but will also require a lot of hard work from you guys to get the event running smoothly and also getting our track up to a high and presentable standard. This means that we have a huge list of jobs we need to tick off and that’s why we will be having at least one working bee a month this year so come October the place will be looking sharp. Please keep an eye out on facebook and our website for upcoming working bees.

To tidy up the image of the club we are going to be removing old and run down signs and are currently working on a sponsorship contract for businesses that would like to put up a new sign at our track to promote their business. If you are interested in this please contact Dee Workman and she can help you out.

One of the big projects that we require for the South Islands and even the Sunbelts is that we need a stewards/hearing room. The committee has decided that the best option is to buy a portable shipping container or building for the job but is currently looking at the best bang for our buck options.

You may have also heard or noticed that we have a club day race fee increase for 2017. It has gone from $40 to $50 and capped at $100 for families with two or more drivers. The reason we have had to increase the race day price is the fact the club is currently very run down and we need to spend money on it. One of the biggest things that need’s to happen over the next few years is the resealing of our track. We are looking at funding to help with this but at the end of the day it’s us that will need to come up with the funds to reseal it.

To run our club we are always rely on volunteer’s weather it’s to run the café, tower, gate, starter, mow the lawns, official, committee or working bees we are very grateful for the people who give up their time just so we are able to go racing. Currently the club is short on volunteers and the ones that have put up their hands to help are maxed out with jobs, some are doing four or five different roles in the club so we can survive. If you have a friend or family member that would like to help out please let one of the committee know so that we can assist them to get the training they require.

Again I would like to thank the people who do put a lot of time and effort into Kartsport Nelson, without you guys we just wouldn't be able to go racing.

Coming up on the 24th of April we are having a social quiz night at the Speight’s Ale house. The main reason for this is to raise money that the club puts into the Mainland series as a travel fund. This will also be a great way to get to know the members on more of a social level and away from racing.

Also a reminder that the first round of the 2017 Marlborough twilight series kicks off on the 28th of January and they really need our support, especially after the recent earthquakes which may put a few Christchurch drivers off making the trip up. This is a great series on a great track so please make the effort to support a struggling club.

I wish you all a great years racing and hope to see you at the track on the 15th of January for our Fun Day.

Kevin Barker

Kartsport Nelson President
